Frequently Asked Questions

What is FTBL.com? How does it differ form other Info portals on football?

FTBL.com is exclusively dedicated to football. We instantly report on all important and peculiar events in world football. We publish news, statistics, results, and fixtures, team squads and much else, but what really sets us apart is our in-house, unique rating system, which has more than 20,000 football players in its database. In compiling the ratings, we take into account the individual data of each player and the league in which he plays. Details about our rating can be found below or in the section “About the FTBL Rating.”

How often is information on FTBL.com updated?

Match results and stats appear on our website an hour after the referee’s final whistle. News is update round the clock.

What is the FTBL Rating?

The FTBL rating is a completely new method for assessing football players based on a large body of statistics on their performances. Such a rating system has been in use for a long time in other sports, such as tennis and chess. The digital reflection of the rating is calculated based on a formula whose details are available on our page dedicated to ratings. The main peculiarity of the FTBL rating is in the fact that it takes into account a wide variety of factors such as: the position played by the player, his technical prowesse in a particular game, the team results, the stability shown by the player in his latest matches and throughout the past half a year, and many more.

The right-hand side colon on the site contains a list of players. What is the nature of this list, what are the principles used to create the list? Why is the list in many different colors? What do the red and green triangles stand for?

The list on the right-hand side contains football players chosen based on the principle of a symbolic team in a given category.
By default the main page of the site contains a team made up of the 23 best players in the world at the moment: 3 goalkeepers (colored in light-green), 6 defenders (in pink), 8 midfielders (in blue), and 6 forwards (in yellow). The current rating of each player is displayed next to his name: a green triangle to the right is indication that the player’s rating went up as compared to his previous number; a red triangle, that the player’s rating dropped compared to his last. The last figure in the right-hand side colon is the magnitude of the change in the rating of a player. At the top of the rating list, there is a choice of other “slices,” such as the rating of the symbolic English Premier League team or that of the Italian Serie A; that is, the best players in the league at the moment, irrespective of their citizenship. In the “Ratings” section there is a full list of available rating slices: ratings of the 23 leading leagues in the world, those of the five known confederations, and a symbolic team made up of the current best players from more than 100 different countries.

Why are some forwards whose ratings are lower than those of some midfielders who are not in the Top 23 included in the list of best players?

The lists of 23 best players in various categories (in other words rating “slices”) are compiled with account of the positions in which the players play: the lists always have 3 goalkeepers, 6 defenders, 8 midfielders, and 6 forwards: therefore, a midfielder who ranks 9th in the rating cannot be found in the Top 23 even if the Top 23 contains players with lower ratings in other positions.

What is the “Absolute rating”?

The Absolute Rating is the combined ratings of the 23 best players in the world at a given time in their respective positions. In other words, it is the rating of a team made up of the very best players at a given time. Such a team comprises the 3 best goalkeepers, the 6 best defenders, the 8 best midfielders, and the 6 best forwards.

How can I find the rating of the French Ligue 1?

The rating of the French Ligue 1 is the rating of the 23 best players in a symbolic (representative) team of the French league. The rating can be found next to the name of the league (French Ligue 1) in the list of ratings on the right-hand side colon of each page on our website.
To see the symbolic team of the French Ligue 1, chose French Ligue 1 in the list of ratings on the right-hand side colon or in the “Rating – Rating Slices” section.

Can I find out on FTBL.com who are the best Brazilian players at the moment irrespective of the leagues in which they play?

To do that, chose “Rating Slices” in the “Ratings” section and, using the search window by nationality, chose Brazil. In addition, a list of the best players of a given country appears automatically on the statistics page for every player on the right-hand side colon of every page on the site.

What do the rating charts on the statistics pages of players mean?

The rating charts on the statistics pages of players are visual illustrations of changes in the rating of a player in a given period of time: a month, half a year, or a year and a half. You can also find rating charts for the entire period during which FTBL.com has begun collecting statistics on a given player.

What is the “Rating Changes Chart”?

This a visual illustration of how a player’s rating changes in a given period of time. In other words, the chart shows clearly how stable is a player in his performance and when he had lows and highs.

It is said on the website that I can create my own charts. What will that give me?

To begin with, the chart is a good tool to compare the performances of two or more players. You can plot statistics on several players on a single chart: this tool is available only to registered users of FTBL.com! You can do the same for a group of players: for example, compare the combined ratings of a number of forwards of a given team with the same number of forwards from another team.
Registered users of the DreamFTBL gaming platform can bet on changes in players’ ratings amongst themselves using user tools available on FTBL.com (after the creation of such charts, they are stored into the “My Pictures” folder)

Where can I find teams’ ratings?

Teams’ ratings are compiled in a particular way. The 23 players of a club with the best individual ratings are chosen, with the only condition being that there is at least one goalkeeper among them. The positions of the remaining players do not matter. The rating of a team is, therefore, the combined rating of the 23 players chosen. You can find those ratings on the “Team Squads” page in the “Teams” section.

Any FTBL.com registered user can set up a fan club and post any information on his favorite players, including ratings based on a variety of criteria after each game played.
